VirtualBox hangs while installing on Windows 7?

I had this problem with both Virtual Box 3.3 and 4.0 on Windows 7.  While installing or uninstalling, it hangs and I can't even close the installer from the task manager: the only remedy was to hard-reset my computer... blarg...

It turned out to be Virtual Box is doing something with my network connection.  Not sure what it is exactly, but I found an easy solution:

  1. Disconnect your LAN cable from the back of your system
  2. Install or uninstall VirtualBox
  3. Plug back in your LAN cable

    1. Haven't used VirtualBox for a while... And I'm surprised they haven't fixed this problem yet! :)

  4. Thanks! disabling the adapters worked for me.

I spent the entire morning troubleshooting. Boot - re-boot, install - re-install, before I found this post.

    Thanks!

  5. Virtual Box 4.2.4 Windows 7 64 bit - same issue (install hangs), same solution (unplug network cable before install) - note that I already had VmWare installed, so that may have complicated matters.

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to install VB in the past 3 days.

Pulling the LAN cable, followed by the install did the trick
